If you’re going to write me a letter, do it for real. Date it on the upper-right corner, write “Dear” or “My love” or “To whom it may concern”. Write it longhand, don’t just type and print it out and leave a space at the bottom where you’d sign your name. I want your effort. I want to see the words you crossed out. In this day and age, everything is so easy - just email/chat/text whatever you want to say. If you made a mistake, you could just backspace or click edit. No. I don’t want that from you. If you’re going to write me a letter, write me a letter that you struggled with. I want to see the places where the ink bled through the paper because you paused too long with your pen on the page, not knowing what words to write next. Let me see how carefully you tried to keep your handwriting neat, and failed miserably. Write me something permanent, something I can touch, something I can look at and kiss and put under my pillow. Can I put an email under my pillow? Trace the curves of your own personal font through the screen? Can I marvel at how your y’s curve at the tail but your j’s never do? No. If you’re going to write me a letter, handwrite it. Let me see your soul.
You have this one life. How do you wanna spend it? Apologizing? Regretting? Questioning? Hating yourself? Dieting? Running after people who don’t see you? Be brave. Believe in yourself. Do what feels good. Take risks. You have this one life. Make yourself proud.
